Klatovy – Klatovy have built a sheltered housing facility with five apartments and seven beds, a community space, and facilities for caregivers with the help of a European grant. The total cost, including equipment, exceeded 31 million crowns with VAT. In the second largest city of the Plzeň Region, this service had been lacking so far, and people had to go to other cities, such as Plzeň and Přeštice, for it. The first residents will begin moving into the apartments this autumn, said the city's spokesperson Radmila Nagovská to ČTK today.
"Sheltered housing represents a modern form of residential social service. It allows people with various types of disabilities who are capable of taking care of themselves to live as independently as possible. They will have access to qualified staff, who will also guide them towards independence and integration into everyday life," said the spokesperson. This is a project of the city hall in cooperation with the City Institute of Social Services.
Klatovy started the construction of barrier-free apartments on Aretinova Street near the cultural house and Drnový Stream last August. "The project is co-financed by the European Union, and the grant is awarded at a rate of one hundred percent of eligible costs," said the spokesperson.
The five apartment units have shared facilities, barrier-free access, and a terrace. A second phase is planned for up to six people. "In the future, we expect a similar house in this area, effectively doubling the service capacity," said Mayor Rudolf Salvetr (ODS).
In Klatovy, there is now the Home for the Elderly Naší Paní, which provides accommodation and care for seniors who can no longer stay at home for health reasons. This continuous health and social service is provided by the Klatovy Regional Charity, which also operates the St. Zdislava Home for mothers with children in distress in the city. The Plzeň Ledovec offers field and outpatient support to people with serious mental illnesses, actively helping individuals in Klatovy to maintain independent housing.
