Jan Trejbal studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University (doc. Miloš Florián) and subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (School of Conceptual Creation prof. Miloš Šejn, School of Architecture prof. Emil Přikryl, graduated in 2012 under doc. Jiří Příhoda). He is currently completing a doctoral program with a thesis on "Transdisciplinary Explorations of Space" and is active at UMPRUM. His work continually oscillates between an artistic and a scientific view of the world. Jan Trejbal is a visual artist, urban planner, educator, and founder of the Neolokator.cz project. It has been nine years since he first used his own method of so-called GPS sketching based on the use of digital technologies in the process of mapping the movement of the human body in the landscape or city – for the purpose of sensory analysis on a human scale. For these authored GPS sketches, a deliberate forgetting that the route is being recorded is characteristic, which is manifested in relaxed and authentic movement in the location. In Altán Klamovka, drawings made using the method of GPS sketching are exhibited, which can be characterized as a record of the performative gesture of the artist's movement in a given location, each associated with different intents of the author. Here we find a route created during studies, personal mapping of the school garden, an artistic record of a performance, or a real working version made for a commission. The exhibited drawing installation is thus very closely connected to the author, mapping his last nine years and was created for the specific space of Altán Klamovka, taking into account both the spatial possibilities of the gallery and the focus on drawing in its post-conceptual approach. The exhibited work of Jan Trejbal demonstrates a current trend in contemporary art, which is the transdisciplinary connection of free visual arts with science, in this case, with urbanism.
