Exhibition "Masterpieces from the Collections of Česká spořitelna, a.s."

Česká spořitelna, a.s. owns, from a historical perspective, a unique collection of paintings that, apart from its artistic quality, represents the level of Czech painting across the country at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. This is made possible by its exceptional position among urban and professional savings banks and credit unions of which it is the successor. These institutions purchased works from recognized Masters to adorn their interiors. The collection of Česká spořitelna is the most comprehensive collection in the Czech Republic that is not owned by any gallery or museum.



The exhibition "Masterpieces from the Collections of Česká spořitelna, a.s." presents a selection of the most significant works by recognized Masters from this period, located in the collections of Česká spořitelna. Among the exhibited authors are the works of such giants as J. Úprka, L. Marold, and F. Ženíšek. The exhibition is situated right in the heart of Prague, in the Rytířská Palace.

ASGK Design is the author of the architectural design, including the execution and lighting of the exhibition. The exhibition space is located on the 2nd floor of the Rytířská Palace in the so-called "Marble Hall." The floor plan arrangement of the panels is dynamic, responding to the demand for perspectives and meanders evoking the landscape theme of the exhibited works. The exhibition panels are self-supporting, measuring 2.5 x 3.125m, constructed from wooden frames with raw OSB boards. The raw surface texture of the panels was chosen as an elemental contrast to the smooth surface of the marble walls and floor.
The spatial stability of the panels is ensured by a subtle steel structure, which also serves as a support element for the lighting equipment. The lighting of the exhibition is provided by exhibition spotlights from the company ERCO.
