In 1931, approximately eighty images of the Tugendhat villa were created, capturing the building in all its complexity – from exteriors in wholes, partials, and details to similarly composed shots of interiors. The author of the photographic documentation was the Brno photographer Rudolf Sandalo Jr. (1899–1980), who was commissioned by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who apparently also monitored the distribution of the photographs and corrected their publication in printed media.
Sandal's work is one of the largest and most valuable collections in the Department of Architectural History of the Museum of the City of Brno, highly appreciated both domestically and internationally. In 2012, the Tugendhat villa collection was enriched by a generous donation from a private collector, who donated forty-two unique photographs of this iconic building to the museum.
A selection of these originals is displayed in the Tugendhat villa until August 26, 2018, and other original Sandalo photographs of Czechoslovak modern architecture are being presented to the public for the first time at the Museum of the City of Brno at Špilberk Castle in the exhibition Rudolf Sandalo (1899–1980) Visions of Modernity, which will also last until August 26, 2018.

The exhibition is authored by Jindřich Chatrný, Dagmar Černoušková (Museum of the City of Brno), and Lucie Valdhansová (Tugendhat Villa).
