BRATISLAVA, January 29 (SITA/AFP) - France and six other countries are requesting the inclusion of the works of the famous architect Le Corbusier on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009. This was announced by French Culture Minister Christine Albanel. Approximately 20 works that map the architect's 50-year career are located in France, Germany, Argentina, Belgium, India, Japan, and Switzerland. Albanel and delegates from the other six countries at UNESCO will issue a call on Wednesday for the inclusion of the architect's works in the world heritage list.
Le Corbusier was born as Charles-Edouard Jeanneret in 1887 in Switzerland. 30 years later, he moved to France, where he changed his name and adopted French citizenship. Le Corbusier was not only an architect, but also an urban planner, painter, sculptor, writer, and designer. His works include famous buildings constructed from Central Europe to India, North and South America. He died in 1965 at the age of 78.
