The following photo cycle brings first impressions from Venice. It primarily focuses on the pavilions awarded by the main jury of the biennale. The main prize – the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement in architecture was awarded to Phyllis Lambert, director of CCA – Canadian Centre for Architecture and a patron of architecture. As the daughter of the co-founder of Seagram Company, she was instrumental in the realization of the iconic Seagram Building (1958) in New York, when she convinced her father and the company partners to entrust the construction of the company's headquarters in Manhattan to Mies van der Rohe.

Among the national pavilions, the highest award – the Golden Lion was won by the Korean pavilion titled Crow's eye, which reconstructs the history of architecture in both parts of the country – the north and the south over the last half century. The Silver Lion was taken home by Chile with the exhibition Monolith Controversies, which, similar to the Czech pavilion, deals with the prefabricated construction of apartments in Chile from 1945 to 1985. The national pavilions of Canada, France, and Russia were also awarded.

Radical Pedagogies, Intermundia and Italian Limes are the recipients of the award within Monditalia.

The photographs are published with the kind permission of La Biennale di Venezia.
