New York - The American New York has a new attraction for tourists starting today, which can also be a breathtaking experience for the locals - a viewing platform is opening in the new skyscraper One World Trade Center at a height of almost 400 meters, where one can admire the panoramic view of the metropolis with all its famous landmarks. The One World Observatory is expected to attract up to 10,000 visitors daily despite the high admission price, with hundreds of thousands of tickets already sold in advance. The skyscraper built on the site of the collapsed World Trade Center buildings (the so-called Twin Towers), which fell after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, welcomed its first tenants last year. However, the grand observation deck is being ceremoniously opened only today. Adults will pay 32 dollars (800 crowns) for a ticket, and one of the five high-speed elevators will take them to the 102nd floor, at a height of 382 meters, in less than a minute. "It is the fastest elevator in the Western Hemisphere. It climbs 380 meters in 47 seconds," boasts Dave Kershner from the visitor center. At a speed of 23 meters per second, passengers in the elevator lined with plasma screens will also view a short animation about how the Manhattan skyline has evolved over the last 500 years. At the top of the skyscraper, they can then look at the current form of the metropolis themselves - the view of the most famous landmarks opens up before them like on a palm: the Statue of Liberty, the UN building, the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, Wall Street, and the Empire State Building. In good weather, one can see up to 80 kilometers away. New Yorkers have not been able to enjoy this view of the city for 14 years, since the time when terrorist-controlled planes crashed into the two towers of the World Trade Center. The opening of the observatory is for them another symbol that the city has managed to overcome the trauma of September 11. The One World Trade Center (WTC), whose construction took eight years and cost 3.8 billion dollars (about 84.5 billion crowns), is now the tallest building in the USA at 541 meters. The design of its shape was contributed by the renowned architect Daniel Libeskind. Besides the tall building at the site known as Ground Zero, there is also a memorial to more than 2,700 victims of the attack and a museum.
