After a long illness, architect and artist Simon Ungers passed away on March 6, 2006. He was born in 1957 in Cologne to the family of the renowned German architect O.M. Ungers. In 1969, his family moved to Ithaca, New York, where his father became the dean of the architecture school at Cornell University. Simon Ungers also graduated from this school in 1980. His designs of family homes across New York State drew attention. He spent the last six years in his hometown in Germany, where he focused primarily on his artistic work.
Three days later, on the other side of the world, another prominent architect—an Australian of Austrian descent Harry Seidler—died at the age of 82. Info>
