Beijing - Today, the highest bridge in the world was opened to traffic in southwestern China. It is suspended over the Niuchuan River canyon at a height of 565 meters, and its construction cost approximately 1 billion yuan (3.8 billion CZK). This was reported by Reuters. The bridge is located in Guizhou province.
The construction of the Beipanjiang Bridge took three years and was completed in September. The bridge, which has four lanes, is 1.34 kilometers long and will shorten the travel time between Yunnan and Guizhou provinces from four hours to one hour.
About 1,000 engineers and technicians worked on the construction. Guizhou province is already home to seven of the ten highest bridges in China.
The newly opened bridge is the highest measured from the ground. However, the highest bridge structure is the Millau Viaduct in southern France, which stands at 343 meters.
