London - A large exhibition of architect Adolf Loos will begin on Thursday at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. The exhibition titled Adolf Loos in the Czech Lands will present not only designs, models, furniture, and glass, but also unique documents from his archive that have not been publicly displayed before.

The curator of the exhibition, Mária Szadkowská, drew from the previous exhibition about Loos at the Museum of the Capital City of Prague two years ago. She focuses on the work that the Brno-born Loos (1870-1933) realized in the Czech lands between 1900 and 1933.
The main gallery of RIBA will offer a selection of Loos's designs for residential houses, such as the famous Müller Villa and the house for Josef Winternitz in Prague. The exhibition in another gallery focuses on the restoration of Müller Villa. Visitors to the London exhibition will also see furniture from the family house of Jan Brummel in Plzeň, glass, and other items from the villa in Hrušovany near Brno, from the Konstandt villa in Olomouc, and from Müller Villa, which have not yet been exhibited in Britain.
For the first time, materials from the RIBA collections will be displayed, including photographs of Loos's buildings in Austria and France and other documents. The RIBA library played a key role in saving Loos's archive, which was transferred to London in 1938 and is now in Vienna.
The exhibition is expected to be a good introduction to the work of this remarkable man, wrote the British Sunday paper The Observer about the exhibition. In a lengthy article about Loos, it emphasized his significant influence on other architects. Creators like Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier learned from him about simplicity and restrained luxury, the paper noted.
The exhibition, which involves the Czech Centre, will be at the RIBA headquarters in central London until May 3. It will be accompanied by a series of events, including discussions with architects Eva Jiřičná and Ivan Margolius, or the director of the RIBA Library Irena Murray-Žantovská.
