Ostrava - The Festival of Architecture, Design, and Art, Archikultura, in Ostrava will present Taiwanese and Finnish architecture. It will also address the future use of the open space in the center of Ostrava at Edvard Beneš Square. The exhibition, which begins on April 11, is organized by the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava. CTK was informed of this today by its spokesperson Kateřina Mertha.

“For two months, works by architects from around the world will be on display in Ostrava. Taiwanese and Finnish architecture will be presented in the Ostravian House of Art. Art and design will be showcased in the Exhibition Hall Sokolská 26 and the Industrial Gallery,”
she stated. The public can actively participate in the ninth edition of the festival through their own proposals and discussions about the form and function of Edvard Beneš Square in the city center, Mertha said.

In the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava, the festival organizers have prepared two exhibitions showcasing significant personalities from the world of architecture: Taiwanese contemporary architect Huang Sheng-Yuan and Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. A lover of the connection between traditional Japanese architecture and Finnish folk building, Aalto passed away in 1976. Examples of the works of both architects will be exhibited in Ostrava until June 4.

“Art and design will also be represented in the Exhibition Hall Sokolská 26 and in the Industrial Gallery with exhibitions by Reinhard Roy, who focuses on geometric abstraction,”
noted one of the festival organizers, Jaroslav Němec. People can view this exhibition from April 10 to May 12, and at the Exhibition Hall Sokolská 26 for another week longer.

Part of the showcase will also be the Festival for the Square in the center of Ostrava. Edvard Beneš Square at the site of the former German House will be enlivened by cultural events, in which the public can actively participate throughout April. “Together with the passing people, we will create benches and sensory maps and discuss how the square should look,” said another organizer, Tadeáš Goryczka.
