Brno - Ten years after the completion of the Moravian Regional Archive in Brno, serious technical problems have appeared on the facade. Due to the threat of injury, people are temporarily unable to walk along the building. The management of the archive, after consulting with an expert, has designated a protective zone around the building. They are asking researchers and other visitors for patience and understanding through their website.
"A technical problem has indeed occurred on the facade of the depository, the cause of which we do not yet know. We are therefore investigating the matter intensively and, in accordance with the recommendations of a qualified expert, have proactively adopted a whole series of safety measures to eliminate possible risks," said archive director Ladislav Macek today to the Czech News Agency (ČTK).
According to unofficial information from the building, several glass panes have fallen off, which Macek did not confirm when asked by ČTK. "If it is necessary to disclose further information, it will, of course, be done in accordance with the relevant regulations, primarily through our website and notices on the premises," the director stated.
The building on the outskirts of the Bohunice university campus has been in operation since 2007. The new headquarters for the Moravian Regional Archive cost 685 million crowns. Experts declared the building the South Moravian Building of the Year 2007.
The structure is divided into two parts - a reinforced concrete block connected by a corridor to a light steel-glass constructed operational building, which, according to the architects' wishes, expresses openness, lightness, and friendliness towards historians and the research public.
