Břeclav - The construction of a funeral hall costing more than 50 million crowns is considered by the coalition in Břeclav to be the largest investment of the ending electoral term. Pavel Dominik (Pro Region), the mayor, and Jaroslav Válka (ČSSD), the deputy mayor, told ČTK today. The coalition includes Pro Region and ČSSD, along with the ANO movement. They also consider the creation of asphalt paths for cyclists along the banks of the Dyje River and new parking spaces to be positive. However, they have failed to address the deteriorating premises of the sugar factory, which is also criticized by the opposition.

Former deputy mayor and now opposition councilor Luboš Krátký (ODS) believes that the town hall has not made any progress in the revitalization of the sugar factory over the past four years. He told ČTK that the city leadership is criticized for, among other things, "the approval of the zoning plan with numerous unapproved comments, the wasteful use of a 90 million crown loan, and the costly and unnecessary investment in a sauna world." The sauna world cost 16 million.

Mayor Dominik also acknowledges no progress regarding the sugar factory. "I consider it a kind of failure on our part. We did not manage to approach it in a more professional manner. But one learns from mistakes. The city will have to approach this area in a different and better way," Dominik stated. The city has sought an investor to manage the entire premises of the sugar factory. In the past, Dominik mentioned that a private company was interested in building an amusement park there. "However, they chose a different location for that, so it fell through without our input," the mayor noted. According to Válka, it is probably necessary not to offer the whole area but to parcel it into smaller sections and utilize it gradually.

Krátký considers the completion of the sidewalk to the Tesco department store a positive aspect, even though he believes it is unnecessarily narrow, as well as the modernization of traffic lights that are intended to speed up traffic, and also the completion of flood protection measures. As part of these, Břeclav has built asphalt paths on the Dyje dam that cyclists can use. Dominik labeled this as an important initiative. Together with Válka, they consider the largest project to be the construction of the new funeral hall costing more than 50 million. The old hall no longer met standards, while the new one has a larger capacity and a new parking lot. Additionally, the town hall has constructed more parking spaces, for example, there are over 260 for employees and the public near the hospital.
