Brno – The Brno embankment on Poříčí Street attracts not only recreational users and sportspeople making use of the new paths, but also vandals. The flood protection concrete walls have been vandalized with illegal graffiti. Although the contractor had some of it removed, new graffiti appeared after a few days. The city is monitoring the situation, said its spokesman Filip Poňuchálek. In addition, the city hall is waiting for the handover of the project in order to apply for occupancy permits. Without this, for example, the café that has opened on the embankment cannot be opened. Considering the necessary adjustments to the area, it is clear that people will not be able to refresh themselves there until next year at the earliest.
The key benefit of the 1.5 billion crowns without VAT project is the possibility of urban development. However, the investment also brings new leisure opportunities for Brno residents near the Svratka River. The city obtained permission for early use of the building in mid-July. Shortly thereafter, graffiti appeared. "We have an agreement with the contractor that they will continuously remove all newly created damage as soon as possible. In some places, this has already happened, but unfortunately, new graffiti appeared after a few days. In collaboration with the contractor, we are taking steps to maintain a clean space," said Poňuchálek.
The company is not only focusing on the spray-painted walls; it is also removing other defects and unfinished work, which is crucial for the handover of the building. "Once everything is in order and the building is formally handed over, we will request the construction authority for the occupancy permit. Given that this is a process under state administration, it is not possible to estimate how long this process will take," Poňuchálek added.
The occupancy permit is also necessary for handing over the café to the management of the Brno-střed city district. "As soon as this happens, we plan to hold an open tender for an operator, which will take at least a quarter of a year. After that, adjustments to the interior will be necessary with regard to the selection of the operator," said city hall spokesman Michal Šťastný.
In addition to the measures in the section from Riviera through Poříčí to the railway viaduct in Uhelná Street, the city is also working on additional phases of flood protection measures. The nearest is the Trnitá section, which concerns both the Svratka and Svitava rivers. At the end of July, the city obtained a non-final building permit and completed the project documentation for the construction execution. After the permit becomes legally valid, according to Poňuchálek, preparations for the tender for the contractor will begin.
