The post-war urbanization of Czechoslovak cities is associated with the phenomenon of socialist construction in the housing sector - housing estates. The 1960s were characterized by architects' efforts to increase the quality of residential environments in mass construction. An interesting representative of such housing estates is Brno's Lesná, designed by the team of architects Zounek, Rudiš, Dufek, and Volák, which is rightly considered a significant achievement of Czechoslovak urbanism and architecture. The new book "Brno Phenomenon Lesná" presents a comprehensive summary of the historical and construction development of the housing estate in all contexts, from the design, through the typology of individual objects, to the issues that the housing estate had to face after the social changes of 1989.
The author of the book, Adam Guzdek, is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at VUT and currently works as an assistant professor at the Heritage Restoration Studio at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at VUT. His name is also associated with the initiative "Důl architektury," which successfully advocated for the rescue of the architecturally valuable station building of the Havířov railway station. The new book was published by VUTIUM Publishing and is available for purchase through the e-shop as well as in regular distribution.
