Brno - The Brno City Hall plans to reopen the Břetislav Bakala Hall at Žerotínovo Square, which has been closed for a long time. The council approved a four-million crown repair of the air conditioning system, and additional money will be needed for new heating, the city hall announced in a press release.
"The Břetislav Bakala Hall has been unused for a long time due to the obsolescence of the air conditioning system. It cannot be repaired as there are no spare parts available. Therefore, we are preparing a comprehensive reconstruction of the air conditioning," said Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
The four-million investment in the air conditioning still needs to be approved by the city council. The work is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. The second part of the repairs, estimated to cost six million crowns, involves the replacement of heating.
After 1989, the Břetislav Bakala Hall was mainly used for cultural events. Film screenings, lectures, and discussions took place there. The hall has a capacity of 300 seats. The building also includes a small hall suitable for lectures with a smaller audience. In the foyer, where a café has been established, exhibitions can be organized.
