Brno – Brno wants to build a new building with social facilities at the Riviéra swimming pool, which will also house food services and a sauna world. The estimated cost is between 200 and 250 million crowns, replied Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík to a ČTK inquiry. Construction could start in 2023. According to Hladík, more than 200,000 people visit Riviéra each year. However, various restrictions were in place during the coronavirus pandemic.
In recent years, Brno has renovated pools at Riviéra for more than 200 million, created new entrances, beach volleyball courts, and amenities for a snack bar. Today, the city council agreed to prepare project documentation for the main building. According to Hladík, the old building will be demolished, and a new, larger one will be constructed. The floor area will expand from the current 2,406 square meters to 4,380 square meters. "This will allow for an increase in the much-needed capacity of the hygiene facilities at the swimming pool,” said Hladík.
For refreshments, the city is considering up to four separate operations, and a new sauna world will also be created. "Part of it will be indoor and part outdoor. Therefore, it will be possible to operate year-round,” said City Councilor for Sports Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL).
Work is set to begin in 2023. However, the city needs to increase the capacity of social facilities for the upcoming summer season, as Riviéra has a maximum capacity of 8,000 people. Thus, additional toilets, showers, and changing rooms will be provided through mobile structures for the construction of the new facilities.
