Brno - Brno is preparing to build a sports hall in the Tuřany district for 39 million crowns. It will primarily serve the adjacent Měšťanská elementary school, but in the afternoon it will also be open to the public and sports clubs. It is expected to be operational from September next year, stated the city's spokesperson Zuzana Gregorová.
    The hall will have sufficient dimensions for all indoor sports, including handball, floorball, and futsal, and it will also be equipped for volleyball and basketball. It will also include a retractable stand for approximately 170 people. "The hall will be operated by the elementary school. The primary goal is to improve the sports opportunities for children from the school and the kindergarten; it is also a response to public demand. Although demand in Brno still exceeds the offer of sports halls," Gregorová said. In November, the city should select the winner of the tender for the construction.
    The newest hall in Brno has been in operation since last year; alongside the hockey halls near Lužánky, it was built by a private investor and has successfully attracted floorball and futsal rentals. The ongoing excess demand is evidenced by the fact that some futsal or floorball clubs must hold their matches or even training sessions in halls outside Brno.
    A new hall is also expected to be built next year in Maloměřice. Its construction is being prepared by TJ Sokol Brno-Obřany-Maloměřice, and it is intended primarily for local handball players and the nearby school. The anticipated cost is over 25 million crowns.
