Multi-purpose sports hall, VUT complex in Brno
Brno - A modern multi-purpose sports hall will be established in the Brno-Tuřany district for nearly 49 million Czech crowns. The European Union grant will cover 39 million, and the city will pay the rest. Construction of the building could begin in March, said Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO) to ČTK today. It should be completed by the end of September. The hall will be built next to the Měšťanská Elementary School. It will mainly serve the students. "It will serve as a gymnasium. Students will not have to travel to more distant sports facilities because of it. The building will normally serve for school education," Mrázek stated. According to him, the city will build the hall from scratch, where foundations will need to be poured and engineering networks installed from sewage to water to electricity. The project is important for a more appealing physical education curriculum and will also provide appropriate modern facilities for recreational sports for the public. "The current offer for sports and leisure activities is still low compared to demand," said Pavel Žára, spokesperson for the Brno City Hall. According to him, in the morning hours, the sports facility will be used by children from the elementary and kindergarten schools. "In the afternoon, it will then be used by interest groups, cultural and sports organizations, and the public," Žára added. "Additionally, it should also serve the Zbrojovka Brno football club, which plans a training center in Tuřany," Deputy Mayor Mrázek added.
