Brno – Brno is looking for a company to demolish buildings at the exhibition grounds where a multifunctional arena will be built. This was stated today in a press release by Anna Dudková from the press department of the municipality. Almost 20 buildings will be demolished. The arena, estimated to cost two billion, with a capacity of over 13,000 spectators, is intended to serve both the hockey team Kometa and for other sports, cultural, or social events.
The city today launched the procurement procedure for the removal of the buildings. "In addition to demolition, the contractor will be responsible for processing, transporting, and disposing of rubble and carrying out all activities associated with the demolition of the buildings and the modification of the area necessary for the actual construction of the arena," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
The buildings scheduled for demolition include storage facilities, administrative buildings, gates, or buildings of certain entrances. "We expect the value of the public contract to be approximately 54 million crowns excluding VAT," specified the project team leader Luděk Borový. Demolitions are planned for 2021. A closer date will be clear once the contractor is known.
The city plans to use the arena for various purposes. "It will provide the city with state-of-the-art facilities for organizing sports, cultural, and congress events with a capacity of up to 13,300 visitors," said Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). The arena is one of the largest strategic projects of the city, with expected completion in 2023. It will be built behind Pavilion Z between Pavilions F and G1.
