Brno - A new low-threshold center in Nový Park Hvězdička will be established in Brno in the devastated courtyard of Hvězdová, Francouzská, Stará, and Bratislavská streets. The project, worth more than 35 million crowns, aims to improve the part of the city where socially disadvantaged families live. A total of 85 percent of the costs will be covered by a grant from the European Union. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, said Brno's Deputy Mayor Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD) today. The city council approved the initiation of the procurement process for the public contract on Wednesday. "If there are no complications, work could start at the beginning of May. Everything should be completed in seven months," Pospíšil stated. The investment includes the construction of a children's playground with play elements, a sports field, furniture, paved areas, and the addition of greenery. "As part of the park, a low-threshold center for leisure activities will be created, including indoor furnishings. The construction will be made of prefabricated modules," Pospíšil added. The city's goal is to cultivate the park's environment. "We see it as an interesting sociological probe. We will test how socially disadvantaged families accept the environment and whether it will have an impact on them," said the deputy. He also admitted that there is a risk of vandalism. "We anticipate increased maintenance. However, such a risk is not a reason for us not to implement the project. Additionally, there will be a manager on site to oversee the park and be responsible for it," Pospíšil added.
