Brno - Brno is planning to renovate the first section of Veveří Street next year from the intersection with Žerotín Square to Grohova Street. The spokesperson for the Brno City Hall, Filip Poňuchálek, told ČTK that the cost of reconstructing the tram track is estimated at 50 million crowns. Additional millions will be needed for road adjustments. According to Brno councilor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS), it is necessary to renovate this section because it is in poor condition. Work will also continue on the design of the second phase from Grohova Street to Konečný Square.

Veveří is about a kilometer long from Žerotín Square to Konečný Square, with Grohova dividing the route into two half-kilometer sections. "We have decided to repair the first section from Žerotín Square to Grohova next year between April and June. We will put in tracks and surface it," said Kratochvíl. The work will not affect the networks underground, which will be addressed in the second phase from Grohova to Konečný Square.

According to Kratochvíl, it is essential to renovate the first section next year because it is in poor condition. "The road is in such a terrible state in the lower section that even the transport company itself says that the road won't last two years. We have to respond to this; it's one of the last main pillar thoroughfares leading into the city center that is not repaired," Kratochvíl stated.

The first section will cost tens of millions. "The cost of reconstructing the tram track in the first phase is estimated at 50 million crowns. This amount will also include costs for subsequent road adjustments. However, these costs have not been quantified at this time," Poňuchálek stated.

The city will also prepare the second phase of the Veveří reconstruction, which will include work on the networks underground and adjustments to parking spaces and greenery. A technical study will indicate how many parking spaces, how many trees, and similar details will be in the area. The councilors have selected a contractor for the study.

In previous years, the city has repaired backbone thoroughfares leading from the city center for hundreds of millions, such as Milady Horákové Street or Horova, Minská, and Údolní. Renovations of Benešova and Štefánikova streets are also planned, among others.
