Brno - In Brno, repairs of the tram tracks and engineering networks, which are in poor condition, will begin in mid-April on the section of Veveří street. The work will cost 86 million crowns, said Anna Dudková from the press office of the Brno City Hall today. The investment will require transport restrictions; drivers will not be able to turn onto Veveří from Žerotínovo square. There is no plan to restrict public transport. The work is expected to be completed in the summer.

They should start on April 15. "Drivers will not be able to turn onto Veveří street from Žerotínovo square. Instead, they will use Kounicova street. There is no plan to restrict public transport on Veveří street. The exception is the trolleybuses on lines 32, 34, and 36, which will not pass through Veveří as they do today but will return from the center via Kounicova street," said Transport Councillor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS).

In mid-May, the repair of the tram tracks in the section from Jana Uhra street to Žerotínovo square should follow the work on the underground networks. In the first phase from May 16 to June 26, passengers will only experience a partial disruption of public transport. Trams will run in the section from the intersection with Žerotínovo square to Smetanova single track. "From June 27 to the end of August, trams should not operate here at all. Cars heading towards the center will pass through the street under limited conditions," Dudková added.

According to her, the work of Brno Waterworks and Sewage will cost 27 million, and the Brno Public Transport Company will invest 59 million crowns in further work. Due to the reconstruction, it will be possible to use the street as a detour route for trams, which will replace line number 1 during its outage related to work on the large city ring in the section of Žabovřeská. "Especially for the engineering networks, there is a risk that the increased traffic on Veveří would not withstand. Therefore, the repair is essential," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

According to her, the sewers and water pipes will be repaired. "This mainly concerns the water supply line from 1929 in the section from Žerotínovo square to Slovákova street, which experienced several emergencies just in January. The result was the interruption of drinking water supplies," Vaňková said. The repair of the sewer from 1910 will affect the section between Smetanova and Sokolská streets.
