Brno – Brno will extend the underpass at the railway station in Královo Pole. The estimated costs for the extension of the underpass, its lighting, and the roofing of the exit are 17.5 million crowns. Additional funding will create a connecting footbridge across the Ponávka River to Myslínova Street. The Railway Administration plans to renovate the station for nearly three billion crowns, with work expected to start next year.

The Brno city council today approved cooperation with the Railway Administration. In coordination with the works, the city agreed with the administration that all work would be carried out by the state organization, and Brno would cover the costs associated with the underpass.

"For the fastest and highest quality execution of the renovation of the station in Královo Pole, including our intention to build a comfortable, quick, and safe path for pedestrians from Myslínova Street, it is essential that everything proceeds in close coordination without undesirable delays. The solution approved today, whereby the Railway Administration as the main investor will ensure the extension of the underpass and the city will bear the associated costs, is actually the only possible one," stated Mayor Vaňková. Currently, people use an underpass located about a quarter of a kilometer away.

In addition to extending the underpass and creating the footbridge, work at the station is also planned. The more than 70-year-old station building, which is now inadequate, will be demolished, and a new two-story barrier-free facility with amenities for passengers will be constructed. The track layout will be replaced, and new covered platforms will be created. The goal is to shorten travel times for connections in the section from Maloměřice to Královo Pole. The reconstruction, costing 2.8 billion crowns, is expected to start next January and be completed by the end of 2024. During construction, passengers will have facilities in mobile containers.
