Brno will build a home with care services in Bystrc for 150 million

Brno – Brno plans to build a residential home with caretaker services in the Bystrc district, which aims to offer around 70 apartments for seniors. The estimated costs are 150 million crowns, said Radka Loukotová from the press department of the Brno city council in a press release today. Construction could begin in 2022.

The house is to be located on Vejrostova Street. "Bystrc is one of the sought-after and popular areas for living. It has been experiencing development in this regard for many years, which must also be adapted to civic amenities. There needs to be enough schools, kindergartens, accessible healthcare, and public transport, which we want to strengthen by extending the tram line to Kamechy. We also cannot forget our oldest generation," said Brno's mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

According to her, the proposed residential home with caretaker services will not only provide accommodation capacities but also aims to become a center of social life for seniors, a place for meetings and active leisure time.

The city announced a competition for the design of the house, in which three candidates participated. The proposal from P. P. Architects won, and the recommendation of the commission was confirmed by the city councillors. The city will negotiate with the winner on developing further stages of documentation. The house is to have six floors, one of which will be underground and will serve as parking and technical facilities. The first above-ground floor will feature a daytime care center with the operation of a respite service, as well as a social space for meetings and relaxation. There will be a community hall on the second floor. Most of the second and further floors three to five will be for apartments. There will be 32 studio apartments, 13 one-bedroom apartments, 12 two-bedroom apartments, and ten barrier-free one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. According to the mayor's deputy Jiří Oliva (ČSSD), the apartments should have large balconies and several shared terraces where celebrations or herb gardening can take place.

The flat roofs will be green, and the building will have solar panels. Rainwater will be collected in a storage tank for watering or flushing toilets. "The facility will include a garden with a gazebo or pond, and there will be space for clients' gardening activities. There will also be 70 parking spaces created," added the mayor of Bystrce Tomáš Kratochvíl (ČSSD).
