The Jednota building in Olomouc is set to undergo renovation, which will include apartments and a restaurant

Olomouc – The owners of the former administrative building of the company Jednota in the historical center of Olomouc are preparing a reconstruction of this shabby eight-story property. The building from the 1970s aims to be transformed into a multifunctional house with shops, a university dormitory, apartments, and dining establishments. The investor has already obtained a construction permit and intends to start the reconstruction this year. Architect Miroslav Pospíšil from the atelier-r company, which prepared the project for the renovation of the building located on the busy Svobody street, stated this in response to CTK's inquiry.

"The reconstruction of the building is not just a necessary technical renewal of the house. The concept responds to the change in the building's function, which was originally an administrative building and whose use is now changing. Its new purpose will be rental housing combined with accommodations like a university dormitory. The top floor will feature the Japanese restaurant Entree," Pospíšil stated.

The administrative headquarters of the state enterprise Jednota was built in the center of Olomouc between 1970 and 1972. The building was designed in a functionalist style. According to Pospíšil, the originally administrative building gradually lost its attractiveness, which is why the owner decided to reconstruct the building and change its use. The ground floor will remain commercial shops, while accommodations for university students are planned for the second floor. In the higher floors, apartments will be created, and the last floor will host a restaurant with a rooftop terrace.

"The reconstruction of the building is also related to the renewal of the adjacent streets; the investor is negotiating with the city about coordinating the restoration process. The new bistro construction and the associated reconstruction of the surrounding streets depend on the level of support from the city for this project," Pospíšil noted. The administrative building of Jednota belongs to the company Geri Plus, which is equally owned by entrepreneurs Ivan Gerši and Josef Endl.
