České Budějovice - České Budějovice want to proceed with the modernization of the Žižkov Barracks in the city center in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice. The area, which is near the České Budějovice train station, is almost empty. Part of the complex belongs to the city and part to the state. According to the proposed project, in the future, the site should serve as judicial facilities for the public prosecutor's office or a court archive, as well as offices for some departments of the city council. This was stated by the mayor of České Budějovice, Dagmar Škodová Parmová (ODS).

"This is a very interesting brownfield. Together with Minister of Justice Pavel Blažek and South Bohemian Governor Martin Kuba, we visited the area and have a certain idea of how to utilize it in the future," she said.

In the past, under former mayor Jiří Svoboda (ANO), the city had prepared an extensive reconstruction of the barracks for approximately one billion crowns and wanted to relocate state offices there. Ultimately, the project was abandoned, as, according to then deputy mayor Juraj Thoma (Citizens for Budějovice movement), an agreement could not be reached with the Customs Administration, which also owns part of the area.

"We are talking about a location with an ideal position. If there were offices for the city council there, it would be very easily accessible for citizens; they could park their car in the neighboring Mercury shopping center and there would be no need for them to go to the building in the square for everything. For us, everything would be even more attractive if there were a grant title for the brownfield," said the mayor.
