Prague - This year, one of the departments of the Czech Technical University in Prague received the Innovation of the Year Award. It was awarded for a bridge slab made of synthetic fiber concrete. Along with it, the company 5M from Kunovice in Uherské Hradiště was also honored. The results were announced today in the Senate by the Association of Innovative Entrepreneurship of the Czech Republic, which has been organizing the competition regularly since 1996. The award for CTU was received by the Department of Concrete and Masonry Structures of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of this university. "This solution will bring enormous savings mainly in material consumption," said the association's general secretary Pavel Švejda. The award was accepted by CTU Vice-Rector Alena Kohoutková. The Kunovice company received the award for glued sandwich panels used as optical surfaces for the radio telescope. "It's amazing to hear that we can do something that few others can do in the world," noted Švejda. The association, which celebrated its 15th anniversary this June, serves as a non-governmental organization in the field of innovative entrepreneurship, technology transfer, and science and technology parks. It is a civic association. It supports the development of technically new products, technologies, or services and their successful market introduction. The main goals of the association are to create and make accessible innovation infrastructure to end users and to create conditions for matching supply and demand for advanced products, technologies, and associated services. It aims to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the Czech economy.
