The eighth edition of the competition for students and architects under 33 years old has its winners. The best works were awarded on September 20, 2016, traditionally during the international construction fair FOR ARCH. Out of a total of 76 submitted studies on the topic of Architecture Beyond Time, the jury selected 18 works for the finals. Subsequently, they awarded seven of them. The public will be able to familiarize itself with the nominated projects during a traveling exhibition, which started with a vernissage at the FOR ARCH fair and will end in April 2017.

The Young Architect Award competition gives students and emerging architects under 33 years old the opportunity to showcase their talent. The aim is to engage authors in the creation of quality public spaces, bring architecture closer to the general public, and last but not least, promote public discussion about architecture. The expert jury evaluated the works based on the quality of architectural/urban solutions, site selection, coherence and contextuality of solutions, contribution to the quality of the environment, sustainability and ingenuity of the design, innovation, and originality of the work.
Students and young architects did not hesitate to spend much time presenting their own vision of the announced topic. This year’s edition was announced with a conceptual theme, which in the jury's view is particularly relevant in today's search for the identity of Czech architecture. The awareness of this issue took place against the background of young architects’ experiences with the international context. The jury was surprised by the small number of surprising solutions; however, those that the jury evaluated among the best were worth it. It was confirmed that true talent is not common, and those who manifest it should receive additional opportunities.,” said jury chairman Zdeněk Fránek.
