We cordially invite you to the presentation of the Czech Architecture Yearbook 2021-2022, June 1, 2022, 19:00, Dominikánská 8, a place of education and culture at the St. Giles Monastery in Prague, baroque refectory (entrance Jalovcová 2).

The new book will be presented by publisher Dagmar Vernerová and this year's yearbook curator Pavla Melková. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic of Beauty and Functionality in Architecture. How do these two categories relate to each other in architecture? Is beauty a purely subjective category? How does the contemporary taste reflect in its perception? And what about functionality? Is beauty possible in architecture without functionality? After the debate and toast, there will be a tour of the monastery with architect Josef Pleskot.

The discussion will feature: Pavla Melková, Josef Pleskot, Michal Škoda, Dagmar Vernerová. Moderated by Petr Vizina.

Pavla Melková is an architect and architecture theorist. Since 2011, she has been teaching at the Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University, while also working at the architectural studio MCA since 1996, which she co-founded with Assoc. Prof. Ing. arch. Miroslav Cikán. She is the curator of this year's architecture yearbook.
Josef Pleskot is an architect known for transforming the Lower Area of Vitkovice in Ostrava, designing a passage through the ramp in the Deer Moat at Prague Castle, and numerous projects in the town of Litomyšl. Recent projects from his AP studio include a pedestrian bridge over the Otava River in Písek, a new altar for Plečnik's Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Vinohrady, and the ongoing revitalization of the Prague Dominican Monastery.
Michal Škoda is an artist and curator – a mediator of contemporary art and architecture simultaneously. Alongside his own authorship, he has been leading the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Architecture at the House of Art of the City of České Budějovice since 1997, where he hosts leading domestic and foreign artists and architects. The focus of his interest is space. Currently, an exhibition of his free works is underway at GHMP Troja Castle.
Dagmar Vernerová is a publisher who, alongside other projects, has been dedicated to publishing Czech architecture yearbooks for 22 years.
