Děčín - Děčín wants to repair the dilapidated gloriette in the Rose Garden near the castle. The viewpoint from the 17th century has been closed since May due to its deteriorating condition. The cost of renovation will be around 22 million crowns, and the city will try to obtain a grant. This was stated to journalists by the city hall spokesperson Luděk Stínil.
"The city has submitted a grant application from the program for the rescue of architectural heritage. The renovation work will take two years," said Deputy Mayor Jiří Anděl. The two-story gloriette in the Rose Garden is an important monument of the historical center of Děčín, built in the 17th century by Count Maxmilián Thun according to Italian models on the northern part of the rocky terrace. It has a covered corridor that allows direct connection between the garden and the Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross.
The public contract is divided into the restoration of the gloriette and the restoration of the sculptures. The original sculptures will be stored in the salle terrain after restoration, and newly made copies will take their place. Děčín preferred a contractor who will ensure at least two excursions with explanations for primary school students during the restoration. "The purpose of the excursions is to spark interest in the craft among students," said Stínil.
In addition to the gloriette, repairs are also awaited for the so-called Long Drives, the access paths to the castle lined with walls with blind arcades. Some sections are also structurally damaged. The city has applied for funds from the Program for the Rescue and Restoration of Cultural Monuments of the Ústí Region.
