Blansko - Workers at the Sports Island of Ludvik Danek in Blansko began the demolition of the former municipal baths building this morning. It will last until March. Construction of a new indoor pool will immediately follow. The city informed about the start of the demolition today on its website.

"The contractor took over the construction at the beginning of July and preparatory work for the demolition took place over the summer, with the clearing of the building, dismantling of the technology, removal of the cladding, window and door fillings being completed. Work on the relocation of engineering networks also began. Work schedules are regularly updated. However, it is expected that the demolition will be completed during March," said project manager Zoja Štastná.

According to her, all work related to the demolition, including sorting, processing, and transport of all materials, ground preparation, and so on, should also be completed by March. "Along with the completion of the demolition, excavation work related to the foundation of the new indoor pool will also commence, so the construction will seamlessly follow the demolition," added Štastná.

Workers will sort and partially recycle materials directly at the construction site, and a crusher will also be in operation there. They will also adjust the terrain to the height for the construction of the new pool.

"The construction of the new indoor pool is one of the key projects for Blansko, but we do not want other investments to be subdued because of it. The National Sports Agency has already announced the allocation of a grant for this project amounting to over 92.4 million crowns, but we are still looking for other sources of funding and grants," added mayor Jiří Crha (ODS), who oversees investment projects.

The construction of a single-story building for swimmers next to the aquapark is historically the largest investment project of the city, with the pool building itself costing 264 million crowns. Total costs, which also include funds for completing project preparation, demolition, disposal of excavated materials, exterior adjustments, and relocation of engineering networks, will reach 321 million crowns.
