Uherske Hradiste

Uherské Hradiště - The unfinished residence of the former District Center for Children and Youth, which has marred Uherské Hradiště for years, is expected to be demolished by the end of this year. Jan Pášma, the spokesperson for the town hall, said this today. A new neighborhood is planned to be built at the site of the building, which is currently inhabited by homeless individuals and has been a subject of criticism from the town’s residents.

The building was in the process of construction in the second half of the 1980s. "After the revolution, its significance and purpose were called into question and eventually faded away. The ruin mars the urban neighborhood near the modern football stadium and regularly appears among the ten most pressing problems of the city that trouble the residents," Pášma stated.

According to him, the site where the ruin stands will transform into an impressive landmark of a new urban neighborhood in about three years. "Such are the plans of INVESTOSTAV, the company that bought the unfinished building and wants to create a new neighborhood in the area, similar to what was developed at the site of the former barracks," said Pášma. He noted that the company has experience with similar projects and has already completed several residential projects in Uherské Hradiště, including the Zelný trh Residence.

"I finally managed to find a solution, and I connected a serious investor with a clear intention to the original owners. The town will be ready to cooperate to ensure everything proceeds as quickly as possible so we can finally get rid of this enormous problem," stated Mayor Stanislav Blaha (ODS).

According to Pášma, the investor is preparing a request for a demolition permit for the buildings, which should be demolished by this year, but at the latest in the first half of next year. "New construction is then expected to begin within two years. In collaboration with the city, the company also plans to connect the area with the Sady-Špitálky section," reported the city spokesperson.
