Mladá Boleslav

Mladá Boleslav - According to experts' recommendations, Mladá Boleslav should not build a water park with costs exceeding approximately 150 million crowns. It should also first develop a detailed study that would evaluate the investment in terms of the diversity of the offerings, as well as the economics of operation and the level of investment costs. The water park should also have some unique element that similar facilities in Prague, Liberec, or other surrounding areas do not have. During today's discussion with the councilors, the authors of the analysis of possible water park models summarized this.

The city leadership ordered the expert assessment due to prolonged negotiations with the Italian investor, Icarus International. Although the councilors approved its plan last year, since then many people have begun to change their minds. The investor has significantly altered the original plan and is now primarily considering massive residential construction in the selected area, with only a smaller portion dedicated to a water sports complex.
Originally, the city leadership wanted to discuss in today's extraordinary meeting of the council whether to continue negotiations with the Italian investor or not. However, the councilors could not agree on the agenda of the meeting, which is why it could not take place. The councilors at least listened to the professional analysis of the future water park, but could not make any decisions.
Mayor Svatupluk Kvaizar said today that it is a shame that the city did not have this analysis available before negotiations with the foreign investor. He previously stated that experiences from other water parks show that it is not worth building a huge complex like the one in Liberec's Babylon, as it would be unrealistic to ensure its operation without significant losses. The authors of the analysis confirmed this. They emphasized the necessity to consider not only the competition from Babylon but also other planned large water parks near Prague. Therefore, they recommended that the city build a facility primarily for local people. They believe such a project can be built and operated without operational losses.
City representatives mentioned today that there are also other domestic investors interested in building a new water park instead of the Italian investor or possibly just modernizing the current swimming area.
