In 2026, fifty years will have passed since the moment when the study of architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague became independent. The Faculty of Architecture CTU in Prague has prepared a year-long program for this occasion, aimed at the academic community, alumni, and the public.
The jubilee year is a significant historical milestone for FA CTU and an opportunity to reflect on the changes in architectural education, the development of the profession, and the role of the faculty in the public space. It enters the anniversary year as a modern educational institution that builds on creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a responsible approach to the environment in which we live. The celebrations commemorate the year 1976, when the faculty was separated from the group of construction disciplines.
The celebration program will offer a series of lectures, exhibitions, and meetings that will connect the school's history with contemporary topics in architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, and design. The main moments of the celebrations are planned for June and December. On June 25, a meeting of alumni will take place at the faculty, and on December 2, a ceremonial gathering of the academic community will occur at the Bethlehem Chapel. The jubilee year is accompanied by a visual style created by Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss.
The programmatic focus of the spring part of the celebrations will be a new lecture series called Springrolls, which will run from March to May. It will focus on the phenomenon of studios as "schools within a school" and will introduce alumni associated with significant pedagogical figures, such as Miroslav Šik, Jan Bočan, and Alena Šrámková. The lectures will take place on March 4 (Children of Miroslav Šik), April 8 (Children of Jan Bočan), and May 6 (Children of Alena Šrámková).
In the spring, an exhibition titled Elements of Architecture by theorist, journalist, and curator Adam Štěch will be presented at the faculty. A selection of photographs of 20th-century modernist architecture and design will be complemented by images of building details associated with personalities and the history of FA CTU. The exhibition will take place from April 20 to May 15.
The FA Around project, realized in collaboration with Prague 6, will enliven the public space of the Dejvice Campus. Students will design and implement landscaping modifications, objects, and temporary interventions around the school. In July and August, the faculty courtyard will host outdoor film screenings for the public.
The anniversary year is an opportunity to present the faculty's further direction. FA CTU is currently innovating its study programs based on the model of leading Western European technical universities. The changes pertain to both the content and structure of studies and respond to environmental, social, and technological challenges. The faculty is enhancing elective options, individualized profiles for students, and international openness.
In the new academic year, the faculty will also open a master's program in Planning and Development, focused on current issues in urban and landscape development. Part of the long-term strategy also includes modernizing the faculty environment for teaching, research, and creative work.
"Fifty years is both a moment and an era in the life of an institution. For me, the faculty is not just a school but a place where ideas arise that transform the form of settlements, landscapes, and the things around us. Each generation of students brings new energy and new questions. This is the essence of the school; we learn from each other. The current challenges in architecture, landscape architecture, and design require collaboration across disciplines. We want to be a place where such collaboration naturally arises. The jubilee is a commitment for us to remain open, critical, and creative," says the dean of FA CTU, doc. Dalibor Hlaváček.
The Faculty of Architecture CTU builds on a long tradition of architectural education at CTU. Since its independence in 1976, it has become an important platform for shaping architectural thinking. It offers students education in three study programs: Architecture and Urbanism, Landscape Architecture, and Design, integrating theory and practice. Its academic community includes significant figures from architectural and design practice, teaching specialized disciplines, researchers, and staff. Together with the administrative team, they create a stable and inspiring environment for quality teaching, research, and creative work.
