Ústí nad Labem - The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University (UJEP) in Ústí nad Labem will have a new building for the Center for Materials, Mechanics, and Technologies (CEMMTECH). The construction costs are 262 million, and the equipment will cost about 23 million crowns. Rector Martin Balej signed the construction contract today. Part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is located in a building in Klíše on Na Okraji Street, while the second part is situated on the campus. A new building will be constructed near the second part within two years, where classrooms from Na Okraji Street will be relocated. This was stated in a press release by the university spokesperson Jana Kasaničová.

"This is another extensive investment initiative aimed at centralizing the university's activities and completing the development of the campus," Balej stated in the press release. This is one of three constructions from the government project RE:START focused on the economic restructuring of the Ústí, Moravian-Silesian, and Karlovy Vary regions.

According to Kasaničová, the new facility will include new classrooms, specialized laboratories, support facilities, and consultation rooms, which are essential for teaching and for academic staff of new study programs.

The university began the construction of the campus in 2004 when it agreed with the city of Ústí nad Labem on the transfer of the old hospital grounds. Some hospital buildings were then renovated, while others were demolished. Gradually, faculties from various locations in the city are moving to the area. UJEP was opened on September 28, 1991, and is the only university in the Ústí region.
