Havlíčkův Brod - Havlíčkův Brod has accelerated the process of changing the city's land use documentation, which will clear the land next to the Ostrov cultural center for the construction of a regional library. By acting quickly, the city aims to increase the chances of realizing this project, which has been discussed for years. An extraordinary city council meeting was convened today, where 18 votes approved the necessary change to the zoning plan. One council member abstained from voting, and no one was opposed. Deputy Mayor Libor Honzárek (TOP 09) stated that the councilors shortened the zoning plan change process by about a month with today's decision. It could be completed in the spring of next year. According to Honzárek, this will allow for the continued preparation of the documentation for the library's construction. The region plans to build a new regional library. "I am glad that Havlíčkův Brod is approaching this matter as it is," said Libor Joukl (ČSSD), the deputy governor, today to ČTK. He noted that otherwise, the change to the zoning plan could take up to a year. In the new programming period, there should also be money in European funds for repositories, which the region could apply for. "The regional library that is being discussed primarily serves the function of a repository for us," he stated. The Vysočina Regional Library in Havlíčkův Brod operates in three rented spaces and also uses the facilities of the city library. The original project for a new library in the hospital complex was abandoned by the regional administration last year, as another construction project is planned there. The region is now considering the establishment of a library on the land next to the Ostrov cultural center, which currently serves as a temporary parking lot. However, the city's zoning plan must first change the intended use of this area so that it can serve for civic amenities, including a library. The first step necessary for this zoning plan change was approved by the Havlíčkův Brod councilors in September.
