Prague - The roofing of the arrival hall at Prague's main railway station will be repaired for almost 470 million crowns by a consortium of Metrostav and Prominecon CZ. The new cover above the railway platforms is expected to be completed by May 2017, said Marek Illiaš, spokesman for the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC), today.
The reconstruction involves the complete replacement of glass panels between the ribs of the arrival hall, and the steel parts of the structure will be given a new coating, stated the railway administration in the documentation for the repairs. The electrical trolley lines above the tracks and the supporting cables holding the trolleys will also be new.
In addition to the steel structure of the hall, the historic Fant's building at the largest railway station in Prague is also under reconstruction. The central section, known as Fant's café, is already completed. Czech Railways, which owns the building, is currently assessing the project documentation for the repairs of the side sections, said Martin Hamšík, spokesman for the Italian company Grandi Stazioni, which is reconstructing the building, to ČTK.
In the past, Grandi Stazioni reconstructed the station's departure hall for 1.15 billion crowns and obtained lease rights for the spaces in the station building for 30 years. In addition to renting stores in the departure hall, the company is also looking for tenants for the space of the former café in Fant's building. However, it has been struggling for a long time to find a tenant for this Art Nouveau space.
