Prague - The governors want to meet on March 3 with the Minister for Regional Development Klára Dostálová (for ANO) regarding the proposal for a new construction law, to which they have objections. During today's meeting of the Council of the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic at the Central Bohemian Regional Office in Prague, the association's vice-chairman Jiří Běhounek told reporters. According to him, the meeting could take place in the Chamber of Deputies.
The cabinet expects that Dostálová's proposal will accelerate and simplify the permitting of constructions. According to the Ministry for Regional Development, the duration of the permitting process for constructions should be reduced from the current five years to one year.
However, the proposal faces criticism from local governments, heritage protectors, and courts. Governors are concerned that the amendment could eventually lead to a reduction in the influence of regions and cities. They fear billion-dollar costs and a decline in expertise in decision-making, as well as a threat to public interest from large developers.
Běhounek today recalled the objections regarding the transfer of officials, funding, and spatial issues. "We were very unhappy that it was stated that the building offices would remain in smaller municipalities and would be pushed out of the regions," he added. Regions submitted comments on the proposal for a new construction law last December, and the ministry should address them by the end of March.
