Děčín - The historic brewery in Děčín has been transformed into a shopping and entertainment center. The investment in the area in the Podmokly district amounted to 790 million korunas, of which approximately 80 million korunas was spent on the purchase of the property. The doors of the Centra Pivovar, which will provide jobs for about 300 people, will open to the public on April 18. Media representative of the investor, Aleš Stupka, shared the details with ČTK.
The brewery was built in 1698 by Count Maxmilián Thun. The current historical buildings date back to the 19th century, and the complex is a protected monument. "The entire building is a connection of history and the present, with exposed elements of concrete, original masonry, and typical features of an industrial building - a brewery," stated Stupka. A particular feature is the lighting, where changing its intensity and color alters the atmosphere in the area.
The area of the building is 22,000 m², of which 17,500 m² is leased. Visitors can enjoy shops, a supermarket, services, a restaurant, a microbrewery, a car wash, and a gas station, as well as a 5D cinema. There are 420 parking spaces available for customers on the roof of the center. "We have rented out more than 80 percent of the commercial retail space and are negotiating with other interested parties," said Stupka.
An interesting feature is the hopsarium, where children can find slides, toboggans, climbing frames, and a traffic playground over an area of 800 square meters. "We expect the hopsarium will be one of the magnets of the center," added Stupka. Thanks to a small zoo focused on Czech domestic animals, schoolchildren will be able to see sheep and goats in the middle of the city. The investor has revived the tradition of producing Děčín beer, Kapitán, in the microbrewery.
The reconstruction began in 2012. The investors are Vojtěch Ryvola, Martin Král, and RSJ Private Equity closed investment fund, a.s. Recently, two shopping centers were opened in Teplice, and other large ones are in Ústí nad Labem and Most. Before the construction began, Ryvola stated that he was looking for a city with over 50,000 inhabitants where he could realize the project, and Děčín was the only available one. While shopping centers in other cities in the Ústí region were built on greenfield sites, Děčín involves the use of a so-called brownfield. "We believe that Centra Pivovar will find its customers. Besides convenient shopping, it offers history, culture, and entertainment for both young and old," concluded Stupka.
