Hodonín - Hodonín wants to start reconstructing the Svět cinema by the end of this year for about 70 million crowns. CTK was informed today by Mayor Libor Střecha (For Hodonín). The cinema will be closed for at least a year, and films will be temporarily screened in the community center. The building will be renovated both externally and internally. The city will cover almost all the costs, except for a grant of about one million from the Ministry of Culture for new projection equipment.
The cinema is decades old. "It is on the brink of safety and hygiene standards, so a total reconstruction is necessary," Střecha stated. A tender is currently underway for a firm to carry out the work. It is expected to start by the end of the year.
The cinema will have a new facade, but workers will also be working inside. "In addition to things like air conditioning, waste, and electricity, the plan includes new seats, facilities, sound systems, and even the creation of a projection room," Střecha said. According to him, plans also include building barrier-free access to the cinema.
During the construction work, the cinema will be inaccessible, but viewers will not miss any films. "We will move the projection equipment to the community center, where there will be a roll-down screen and films will be temporarily screened during the cinema's closure," the mayor noted.
Hodonín has nearly 25,000 inhabitants. Last December, the councilors approved a budget with revenues of 553 million and expenditures of 634 million crowns, with the more than eighty million crown deficit being covered by surpluses from previous years.
