Hodonín - After two years of construction work, the first phase of integrating the former large barracks in Hodonín into the urban development is coming to an end these days. The work involved bringing utility networks into the area and renovating roads and sidewalks, costing 57 million crowns, said Hodonín mayor Lumír Šimeček to reporters today. For most of the military buildings in the barracks, which cover an area of 25 hectares, it has already been possible to find new uses. Offices for companies, production spaces, a dormitory, and apartments in some buildings have been established. "The work on the construction of technical infrastructure in the large barracks is by no means finished with the current project," the mayor stated. The city needs to secure 50 million crowns for the second phase. This funding will complete the roads and extend utility networks to the training ground, where future construction of approximately one hundred family houses is planned. Afterward, further millions will need to be found for the renovation of the central part of the barracks and its greenery. Hodonín has taken over a total of four military areas from the army. In addition to the large barracks, the city hall also had to take care of the Dukelská barracks and is looking for uses for two former military training grounds. From the Pánov area, covering 93 hectares, a golf course could potentially be developed in the future, which is currently lacking in the region.
