Hradec will announce an architectural competition for the modification of the northern terraces

Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové city hall will announce an architectural competition for the design of the revitalization of the so-called northern terraces on the site of the former city walls. The proposal should also include a solution for the neighboring Žižkov Gardens. This was stated to journalists today by the head of the main architect's department of the city hall, Petr Brůna.
"The architectural competition should find a suitable design for the revitalization of this entire area," he said. The competition is to be announced on March 30, and the results are to be approved by the city council this June. According to Brůna, in addition to the repairs of the terraces, the proposal should also address the modifications of the Žižkov Gardens, whose design should be based on the original proposal by the architect František Thomayer from 1905.
"It is important to preserve the original atmosphere and genius loci, but with the use of current knowledge, technologies, or new plant species," Brůna stated. According to the city hall, the preparation of the project for the revitalization of the northern terraces could take approximately three years. Repair costs could amount to around 80 million crowns according to rough estimates.
The Hradec Králové city hall had previously commissioned an assessment of the stability of part of the walls above the Žižkov Gardens. The study revealed that some areas are problematic, but there is no acute danger of collapse. Nevertheless, the city closed some connections on the terraces last June.
In Hradec Králové, builders completed repairs of the terraces next to the brewery staircase last year, for which the city hall paid approximately 18 million crowns. In October, the city opened the southern terraces after repairs costing 54 million crowns, where a relaxation zone was created. This year, repairs are also planned for the part of the former city walls near Adalbertinum that collapsed last year, which is still secured with boarding. The city council allocated 5.7 million crowns for the repair of this part of the walls.
