Hranice – The town hall in Hranice, located in the Přerov region, is preparing to begin renovations of the central Masaryk Square at the beginning of March. The project will include planting new greenery, installing furniture, and creating a broader technical infrastructure for public events. The work is expected to last two months and cost nearly seven million crowns, said the town hall spokesperson Petr Bakovský to ČTK.

Thanks to the renovations, the square is expected to become more visitor-friendly, especially during periods of summer heat. "We want to offer something refreshing in the square, such as a misting system, and we also want to add a bit of greenery. It has turned out that some trees here are not thriving due to problems with groundwater. Therefore, we want to plant more suitable tree species so that people have better conditions to spend their time here in the summer," said the town hall spokesperson.

According to the plan, several trees in the square will be replaced, and six new ones will be added. The drinking fountain and benches in the area will also change, and new furniture will be added.

A new electric connection will be added from the distributor at the old town hall, and four new electrical distributors will be installed in the square, ensuring a reliable electricity supply during various cultural events. "The square has been in operation for 15 years, and during that time, many things have changed, including electrical installations, as the consumption during the winter months at Christmas markets is significantly higher. Larger events, which are also demanding in terms of power consumption, are held here," added the town hall spokesperson.

The work is expected to begin on March 2, but it will depend on weather conditions. According to representatives of the town hall, the construction also includes earthworks, which will disrupt normal operations in the square for the next two months.
