Hranice (Přerovsko) - The Hranice viaducts, part of which the Czech Railways wanted to demolish, should become a monument. At the request of the Hranice town hall, the Ministry of Culture has initiated the process of including this object among immovable cultural monuments. During the proceedings, protection applies to the viaducts. This was reported today by the Hranický deník. The intention to demolish part of the railway bridge was communicated by ČD in February. They justified it by stating that the brick part of the viaducts is deteriorating and falling masonry poses a threat to passersby. The information stirred considerable commotion among the residents. The town hall responded by writing a letter to the Minister of Culture requesting assistance. "We have asked the minister to assess the viaducts from the perspective of whether it would be possible to initiate proceedings to include them among immovable cultural monuments. Their historical value is indeed quite high," said deputy mayor Radka Ondriášová (Právo a Spravedlnost) to the newspaper. The Ministry of Culture has now announced that the process to classify the viaducts as monuments has already begun. "This process takes a relatively long time and can stretch for up to ten years. The important thing is that even now, everyone must treat the viaducts as if they were a monument," stated Petr Vystrčil, who is responsible for state heritage care at the Hranice municipal office. In addition to the viaducts, the Hranice town hall has also requested the ministry to consider including the former military academy building among the monuments. According to the town hall, it also has considerable historical value.
