Jesenice (near Prague) - Jesenice near Prague is preparing to build an elementary school for 540 students. The expected costs for the construction of the complex amount to 488 million crowns. If everything proceeds smoothly, construction could begin this autumn, said Mayor Radka Vladyková (ANO) to ČTK.

Councilors at a recent extraordinary meeting approved the submission of a grant application, which the city has promised from an investment program aimed at increasing school capacities in the Prague area. "We are awaiting project inspections at the Ministry of Education and Finance. If it goes well and they return it to us quickly, we would like to select suppliers over the summer and start digging in the autumn," the mayor stated. According to her, the construction will take 14 months.

The city purchased the land three years ago, but the building permit only became legally valid a few weeks ago. "Unfortunately, some people wish us well and some do not. We had to deal with objections in the EIA process, appeals within the zoning decision, and then with comments during the building proceedings," Vladyková added.

Jesenice has about 9,000 permanently registered residents and in recent years, many new houses have been added to the city. The issue of insufficient school capacity is also addressed by other municipalities in the Prague area. Other towns included in the same investment program as Jesenice are, for example, Rudná, Psáry, Čelákovice, and Říčany.
