Brno - The South Moravian Region is preparing to commission a territorial study to examine the route of the R43 road in the Brno agglomeration and additional connections to the highway and road network in Brno and its surroundings. This was stated today in a press release by the region's spokesperson Monika Brindzáková. The study is necessary to update the regional development principles issued last year, which left some highways and roads unresolved in the most problematic part of the region.

Deputy Governor for Urban Planning Martin Maleček (STAN) expects that the final form of the study's commission will be ready in a month, followed by a selection of the designer. "We estimate the completion to take 12 to 15 months and within three years we should start discussing the update," said Maleček. It will take some more time before the update is approved. Thus, the route of the planned four-lane R43 road will be known about 20 years after the establishment of the regions.

Also, because the update process takes about four years, the parties ANO, STAN, Greens, TOP 09, and Žít Brno wanted the region not to approve an incomplete urban plan, but instead to first complete the study and publish the document with the resolved Brno agglomeration. However, the then leadership of the region, together with the Social Democrats and the Christian Democrats, approved an incomplete variant.

"This study will thoroughly examine which variant of the R43, the Bystrc, Bítýška, or the optimized variant, should be recommended for construction. Whether we need the southwest tangent and in which places to connect the area from the Černovická terrace to Holubice on the D1," said Maleček. The route of the R43 from Kuřim to Černá Hora is also not clearly defined yet, with two variants currently existing.

The study will only investigate the impacts of these plans, check and specify the conditions for placement, functionality, and feasibility regarding environmental and human health impacts. Individual municipalities have the opportunity to participate in the commissioning of the territorial study in cooperation with the region. "Municipalities and city districts will be given the space for comments even during the processing of the individual phases of the study," stated Maleček.
