Candidate for the Dean of the Brno Faculty of Architecture at VUT elected Jan Kristek

The Academic Senate of the Brno Faculty of Architecture has today elected a candidate for the appointment of dean. In a secret vote, MArch. Ing. arch. Jan Kristek, Ph.D. received 7 votes out of 13 possible.

This year, three candidates vied for the position of dean at FA VUT. In addition to the current dean, doc. Ing. arch. Jan Hrubý, CSc., there were also doc. Ing. arch. Kamil Mrva, Ph.D. and MArch. Ing. arch. Jan Kristek Ph.D. The term of the current dean expires on November 9, 2018. The Brno FA VUT is the second largest school of architecture in the Czech Republic. This year, 63 engineers in architecture graduated from its master's program.


Jan Kristek (*1983, Kyjov) studied architecture and urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture VUT in Brno and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He currently works as an assistant professor at the Department of Urbanism at FA VUT, where he leads a studio together with Jaroslav Sedlák. He generally focuses on critical theory and a critical approach in relation to urban planning and its history. He has contributed to publications such as "The Struggle for Space: Architecture as a Social Practice" (Archa, Zlín, 2013) and "On the Threshold of Tomorrow" (Vutium, Brno, 2015). He is a co-founder of the platform Contesting Space (along with Markéta Březovská), which organizes lectures, workshops, and discussions with international outreach.
