On Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 6:00 PM, an opening of the exhibition CATALOG HOUSE will take place at the Gallery of Architecture in Brno, presenting the story of the creation of twelve quality small-scale family houses by Czech builders and architects to the wider public.
In Czech society, there is a prevailing stigma regarding the inaccessibility of architecture for ordinary builders and the notion of its financial inaccessibility. A common argument is also the time-consuming nature of project development and the risk of architects' dictates. In general awareness, there is a lack of experience that a house from the architect's workshop is a joint work of the builder and the architect, in which a thorough understanding of the needs and life of the builder and their family is materialized.
As a result, our cities and towns showcase a carpet of catalog houses that offer users a false sense of exclusivity for little money. This creates areas of heterogeneous typologies and aesthetic interpretations of architecture without relation to the surroundings and tradition. Nowadays, we can find dozens of projects in our country where architects collaborated with builders at all stages of realization. Through a detailed analysis of the client's life, they were able to save costs on the construction of houses and create a work that corresponds to their visions of life.
Family houses were selected to be affordable for people with average incomes and will be presented through photographs, models, plans, and interviews with the builders.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 6 PM at the Gallery of Architecture in Brno. The exhibition will run until December 21, 2018, and will be open daily except Mondays from 10 AM to 6 PM. The accompanying program of the exhibition will include guided tours, discussions, and lectures by individual creators. A detailed guide for working with an architect will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.
