Brno - The Department of Fine Arts of the Pedagogical Faculty in Brno has opened new studios. They will be used for teaching painting, drawing, and object creation. In the new media laboratory, videos can be recorded and streamed. The three-story modern building cost 31.1 million crowns. The new building is exceptional for its minimalism and large windows that provide natural light to the studios, said Petr Kamenický, head of the department, to ČTK.
The building consists of three blocks with varying heights of the fine arts studios featuring a terrace. It is connected to the existing faculty buildings and offers new spaces for development for both students and teachers. The studios are designed as creative laboratories with sufficient storage space, exposed structural elements, and both natural and artificial lighting necessary for artistic activities.
The new media laboratory serves both education and the creation of audiovisual materials with streaming capabilities. "The essence of what I want to achieve at the department is that I would like to have semi-professional teams of students focused on digital photography, camera work, video, editing, animation, and sound. The new media studio should serve this purpose as well,” Kamenický stated.
On the next floor is the drawing and painting studio. It is equipped with easels, a skylight for natural light, storage for paintings, plenty of space, and adequate high-quality lights that can outshine the sun. The object creation studio has necessary tools and special tables.
The construction was financed by the Ministry of Education with 27 million crowns, while around four million crowns were covered by Masaryk University. The building was designed by architect Michal Palaščák. The environmental elements of the building meet the requirements for the simplicity of the technologies used, including recyclable concrete, functionality, and connection to the existing systems of the faculty building.
The Department of Fine Arts plans to also renovate classrooms next year. A workspace for interfaculty and interuniversity collaboration of doctoral study programs with a small repository and equipment will also be created.
